JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-September 23, 2014– Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida (BBBSNEFL) will host the 19th Annual Reggie Hunt Memorial Golf Classic on October 24, 2014 at the Amelia River Golf Club. The event is held annually in Nassau County in memory of William Reginald Hunt, Jr., a former Fernandina Beach High School student athlete and six-year participant in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida in Nassau County.
Big Brothers Big Sisters in Nassau County relies on private donations and community support to positively affect the lives of children facing adversity. Programs focus on academic success, positive behaviors, job readiness and more.
Big Brothers Big Sisters in Nassau County is pleased to acknowledge their Community Partners including The Nassau County Sheriff’s Department and Rock Tenn. In addition, Corporate Sponsors include the First Coast Community Bank, Rayonier, Walmart, Ameris Bank, Rick Keffer, and AlphaGraphics.
“We appreciate the community coming together to support this event and our organization. This event keeps the light of Reggie Hunt alive. We hope that those who support the golf tournament financially and by participating on a golf team, do not allow their support to end there. We are always in need of caring adults to serve as mentors to our students. There are students on our waitlist who are looking for mentors. We hope that this tournament will also highlight the importance of giving back and positively affecting the life of a child,” said BBBSENFL’s Chief Executive Officer, Warren Grymes.
Registration for the 19th Annual Reggie Hunt Memorial Golf Classic begins at 12:30pm with a 1:00pm with a shot gun start. A reception with prizes will be held following the tournament including prizes and recognition for the top 3 teams who raise the most money for BBBSNEFL and carry the lowest tournament net score.

About Reggie Hunt
William Reginald Hunt, Jr. was a participant in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast program for six years as the Little Brother of Cyril Traeye. Throughout his young life, Reggie gave love and value to his family and community. He participated in the Neighborhood Youth Crime Prevention Program and received honorary awards in the Nassau County DARE Program under the direction of Tommy Seagraves, Sheriff of Nassau County.
Reggie found his true calling when he began playing his most beloved sport, football. He was a lineman on the Fernandina Beach High School varsity football team and hoped to one day play in college and “put Fernandina on the map.” He planned on returning home after his football career to give back to his community.
Reggie was tragically killed in a gardening accident on August 10, 1996. Everyone fortunate enough to have known him has been left with a positive imprint in his or her heart.
He was planning to play in a Golf Marathon fundraiser later that month, so in order to honor this remarkable young man, Executive Director Chip Wood launched the initial Reggie Hunt Memorial Golf Classic to benefit the children in Nassau County who want or need a mentor.
