Celebrate Chanukkah at the JCA’s Annual Party and Chanukiyah Lighting
The Jewish Community Alliance’s annual Chanukkah celebration and lighting ceremony takes place on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 5:45 – 8 p.m. JCA members and families from across the city will gather to celebrate this holiday and the lighting of the JCA’s giant outdoor chanukiyah, which was created by local artist David Ponsler. Reservations are required by December 5. This event is free to JCA valued members.
This evening begins the eight-day festival of lights that starts on the eve of the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev. The lighting of the nine-branched chanukiyah used during Chanukkah commemorates the miracle of a day's worth of Menorah oil lasting eight days. Eight of the chanukiyah’s nine candles symbolize each day the single day’s worth of oil burned after the consecration of the Temple.
The JCA lighting ceremony includes the singing of traditional Chanukkah songs and is followed by a family-style dinner, youth activities and entertainment.
The JCA Chanukkah Party is organized by the JCA’s Department of Family and Jewish Outreach. For more information, contact Dave Flagler at 904-730-2100 ext. 271.
